Working with Studio 141

As a graphic designer for Studio 141, I mainly focused my time on the production of the Professionally Speaking publication. From start to finish I worked closely with the team as well as scheduling photoshoots, image sourcing, organizing the flat plan, reviving old in-house advertising, and ensuring that both English and French issues were on schedule for print and web. This was an invaluable learning experience as I had the opportunity to work on projects that I really enjoyed with a wonderful team.

Assisting with production. For this bi-lingual quarterly publication, I was mostly responsible for coordinating shoot schedules, image sourcing, organizing the flat plan, and copy flow. This was my first time liaising with local celebrities and their managers. It was a little intimidating. Everything went off without a hitch and I will have to say this issue is the one I’m most proud of as I had more to do with it than previous issues.

Revised in-house ads. The challenge with these designs was the amount of information that needed to be included. I worked with the editor to cut copy in order to create leeway for design elements. With out room for design elements and flare the intended goal of the ad is futile.

Work for CVCA was not a creative job in a traditional sense. The type of projects that were apart of the CVCA project roster included the mind shifting task of taking raw data from numerous tables and translating / transforming hard numbers into easier, on-brand, digestible info graphics. These quarterly and annual reports were not for the faint of heart or weak minded. Learning how to articulate raw data into visual forms such as graphs, maps, grids, tables, and pies gave me the opportunity to use a different kind of creativity that involved the very analytical side of my brain. And for that, I found great value in working on this project.
